The issue arose after photos emerged of Muslim clerics speaking from the church pulpit during the Change Makers International (CMI) conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

In a viral video, Pastor Kumuyi clarified his stance, explaining that the conference was held at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium, not within the church’s sacred walls. He emphasized that this distinction was crucial in understanding his decision to invite Muslim clerics to participate in the event.

By hosting the conference in a neutral venue, Pastor Kumuyi aimed to promote interfaith dialogue and cooperation, rather than compromising the sanctity of the church.

In his words;

“People were asking, Pastor WF, what are you looking at, look at that man having his cap on.”

“Yes, we are in the stadium, we are not in the church building, and so I do not have to challenge him, he has his cap on.”
