Police Arrest Four For Murder Of 33 Year Old Photographer
The Police in Niger State have successfully apprehended four suspects involved in the murder of Zaccheaus Salawudeen, a 33-year-old photographer from Minna. This arrest comes after eight months of diligent investigation following the tragic incident that occurred in February.
The suspects, identified as Mustapha Ibrahim (19), Shamson Rabiu (21), Bashar Aliyu Gizo (20), and Abdullahi Umar (19), allegedly attacked Salawudeen in his residence located in the Tudun-Fulani area of Minna. It is reported that they robbed him and subsequently stabbed him to death, having learned that he had received a substantial amount of money shortly before the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects are facing charges for culpable homicide. The incident was first reported to the Bosso Division on February 27, 2024, and the police command has been actively pursuing the suspects since then, culminating in their arrest on October 26.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime. They explained that on the day of the incident, while discussing among themselves in the Rafin-Yashin area, they learned of Salawudeen’s financial windfall, which motivated their lethal actions.
“They mobilised to his residence at midnight, attacked and robbed him of #95,000 but they felt disappointed and believed that the deceased lied to them about the amount, and one of them known as Danladi, presently at large stabbed the deceased with a knife in the stomach”.
Abiodun further revealed,” On August 9th, 2024, the same robbers attacked another victim’s residence at Rafin-Yashin who initially refused to open the door for them, but they shouted that, does he want to be killed like the photographer? In the process, a neighbour identified them and he was inflicted with a serious injury of matchet cut by the robbers on the jaw, but he survived”.
An investigation is in progress and efforts are being intensified to arrest the said Danladi.
Suspects have also been arraigned in court for prosecution.
Items recovered during their arrest include two knives, five wraps of suspected cannabis, alcohol, matches and abandoned slippers.
