2 killed as gunmen abduct businessman in Ogun State

A devastating attack occurred in Ilara town, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Wednesday night. Gunmen invaded the community, killing two people and kidnapping a prominent businessman, Ade Bendel.
PUNCH Metro learnt, in separate interviews with some residents, the gunmen stormed the town around 11 pm, shooting sporadically and causing widespread panic. The monarch of the town, Oba Mutiu Adedimeji, confirmed the incident and reported that two people lost their lives in the attack.
The gunmen abducted Ade Bendel from his hotel, where he was staying. Witnesses claimed that the kidnappers trailed Bendel to the hotel before opening fire. A stray bullet allegedly hit and killed two people, including a hotel employee.
A youth leader in the community, who wished to remain anonymous, described the chaotic scene. “The gunmen began shooting sporadically in the hotel, and two people were reportedly killed by stray bullets. A female employee at the man’s hotel was among those killed.”
Another resident, identified only as Ade, reported that some individuals sustained injuries while attempting to flee the scene. “The incident happened, and we were hearing gunshots, which caused people to panic. Two ladies sustained injuries after falling into a ditch while trying to escape.”
The Ogun State Police Command has been contacted for a reaction, but spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated that she was still gathering details. A police officer in the area confirmed the incident but declined to comment on the casualties.
The community remains in a state of panic following the attack. The kidnappers allegedly escaped into the Republic of Benin, abandoning Ade Bendel’s vehicle along the road.
