Super Eagles Star Chidera Ejuke Speaks On Hostage Situation In Libya
Chidera Ejuke has recounted the challenging experience he and his Super Eagles teammates faced during an airport ordeal in Libya. The team was detained at Al Abaq Airport in Libya earlier this week, leading to a distressing situation for the players and officials.
While stranded at the airport, the Super Eagles faced several hours without access to food and water, adding to the stress of the predicament. This unfortunate incident led to significant discomfort and uncertainty for all involved.
Ultimately, the players and officials were allowed to return to Nigeria, opting not to participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights. Ejuke’s account highlights the logistical and safety challenges the team encountered during this unexpected and difficult situation.
“It was a crazy situation that we did not expect. We could not do anything, we were locked in the airport,” he told Dario de Sevilla.
“We were locked in for about 16 hours. Yes, it was a long time. Without food, we brought some water when we came from Nigeria and some snacks from the flight.
“We were a little scared, but we all stood together so that we wouldn’t go crazy”
