Paris St-Germain have sealed a major transfer coup with the signing of Benfica’s talented midfielder Joao Neves. The 19-year-old Portuguese sensation, previously linked to Manchester United, has penned a five-year deal with the French giants.
Neves’ remarkable rise at Benfica, where he became a key player after breaking into the first team in January last year, has earned him a high-profile move. He made 75 appearances and scored four goals for his boyhood club.
The transfer fee, initially set at £50m, could potentially rise to £60m with add-ons. Neves’ arrival at PSG comes as the club looks to rebuild following the departure of star forward Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.
“Joao is one of most talented players in Portugal and internationally,” said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
“He was so passionate to join Paris St-Germain and determined to fight for the jersey – which is what we expect of all our players.”
