Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his thoughts on his team’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid, their third loss of the pre-season under his leadership.
Despite Noni Madueke’s consolation goal, the Blues struggled to contain Real Madrid’s attack, with Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz scoring for the Spanish side.
In his post-match assessment, Maresca identified the need to strengthen his team’s defensive structure as a key area for improvement moving forward.
He said:
“I think offensively we played a good game but defensively we had some problems that we needed to solve and adjust. Once again today we created 6, 7 clear chances.
“I think the problem is more in the moment, defensively where we need to improve things, the defensive line in general.”
