Your Reforms Are Not Working For Nigerians – Bauchi Governor To Tinubu

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has urged the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to reassess its current monetary and fiscal policies, asserting that they are failing to yield effective results. Speaking at the launch of the Nigeria Development Update in Abuja on Thursday, the governor emphasized the pressing need for policy reform in light of the escalating hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Governor Mohammed highlighted the dire situation experienced by many citizens, warning that widespread hunger and economic challenges have culminated in a volatile environment. He expressed concern about the extreme frustrations of the populace, revealing that even leaders like himself are at risk of being targeted by angry citizens. This alarming situation underscores the urgency for a more responsive and adaptable government approach.

Furthermore, Mohammed called for the federal government to formulate more effective economic policies, emphasizing that the current funding levels are inadequate to combat the pervasive hunger affecting the nation. His remarks reflect a broader call for action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians and to implement targeted strategies that can lead to sustainable economic improvement.

By advocating for these changes, Governor Mohammed aims to encourage a dialogue around the need for a collaborative effort to foster a more resilient economic framework that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

“When the reforms started, the sub-nationals supported the President. But now, the macroeconomic policies causing inflation need to be reconsidered. There is hunger, people are suffering, and Nigerians are not benefitting from these reforms.

“What are you doing to reduce hunger? We must help the people cope.

“The purchasing power of the people has drastically diminished.

“My brother Cardoso (CBN governor), these policies are not working. They need to be reviewed. Let’s not resort to blackmail,” the governor said.
