A Kano Magistrate Court in Sabon Gari has remanded Manniru Ibrahim Fanisa, a chemist, in custody over the alleged rape and subsequent death of a nine-year-old girl, Rumaisa Sadiq.

The incident occurred when the girl was brought to Fanisa’s facility for malaria treatment.

According to State Counsel, Barrister Zainab Aliko, the girl’s death was a direct result of the rape.

Fanisa has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and homicide, which violate sections 283 and 221 of the Penal Code.

The presiding judge, Hajara Safiyyu Garba, adjourned the case to September 30, 2024, and ordered Fanisa to be held at a correctional center until then.

The case has sparked outrage and concern over the safety and well-being of children in the community.
