Joseph spent five days and five nights in captivity without food or water. During her ordeal, she and other hostages were beaten and dispossessed of their mobile phones and valuables. Despite the traumatic experience, Joseph expressed gratitude to the NYSC scheme for their prompt response and support.

Joseph had been sworn in on November 29, 2024, and was undergoing her orientation course in Kogi State. However, she fell ill and obtained permission to travel home for medical attention. It was during her return journey to Kogi State that she was kidnapped along Enugu-Ezike Road.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. when a motorcycle rider warned the bus driver of an armed robbery attack ahead. Despite the warning, the driver continued, and they were ambushed by kidnappers. Joseph recounted that the driver quickly opened the door, instructing passengers to flee into the bush. Interestingly, the kidnappers spared the driver, allowing him to leave unharmed.

Joseph was released on January 13 and shared her story with Mr. Sam Pepple, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom, who visited her in Abak on Sunday, January 19.
