

An unidentified man, suspected of attempting to steal an electrical cables from the powerhouse of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at Lagos airport, suffered an electric shock. Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of FAAN, revealed this during the inauguration of a 30-member security team for the Lagos airport on Monday.
Kuku disclosed that the incident occurred recently when the man unlawfully entered a building housing FAAN’s power generators. She explained that he was tampering with installations supplying power to the airport when the electric shock occurred.
The managing director emphasized FAAN’s efforts to close all security gaps that could allow unauthorized individuals access to airports. She noted instances where trespassers breached perimeter fences to steal airfield lighting equipment.
Kuku expressed FAAN’s anticipation for the deployment of the 30-member security team, highlighting significant investments in airport security, including armory upgrades, personnel training, and procurement of arms and ammunition.
Addressing the newly inaugurated security personnel, Kuku stressed the importance of collaboration with other security agencies at the airport to maintain a safe and secure environment. She underscored partnerships with various security forces, particularly the Air Force, in safeguarding airport facilities.
Kuku affirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Mr. Festus Keyamo, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to enhancing airport security measures.
