‘Don’t Arrest Ajaero’ – HURIWA Slams Police, Demands Immediate Release Of Over 1,000 Protester
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has issued a strong warning to the Nigeria Police Force against the planned arrest of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) president, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
HURIWA condemned the allegations against Ajaero, describing them as politically motivated and a blatant attempt by the government to suppress dissent and intimidate the labor movement.
According to a statement by HURIWA’s national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, the organization is deeply concerned about the erosion of democratic principles under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Onwubiko stated that the government is rapidly turning Nigeria into a dictatorship, police state, and banana republic marked by lawlessness, impunity, corruption, and organized chaos.
HURIWA emphasized that this pattern of repression is not only undemocratic but also threatens Nigeria’s survival as a sovereign nation founded on justice and equity.
The organization urged the government to respect the rights of citizens and uphold democratic principles, rather than silencing dissenting voices through intimidation and harassment.
