Gov. Monday Okpebholo Urges Edo Parents to Shield Children from Cultism on World Children’s Day

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo joined children across Nigeria and the globe in celebrating World Children’s Day, urging parents and guardians to keep their wards away from harmful cult activities.
In a heartfelt message, he extended warm greetings to every child in Edo State and beyond, emphasizing that today’s young ones—“the true leaders of tomorrow”—deserve every opportunity to flourish.
Recognizing the day as a chance to honour children’s “boundless potential, innocence, and vibrant spirit,” Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to their welfare.
“Our children are our most precious assets. Their dreams are the blueprints for a brighter future for Edo State,” he said, pledging continued investment in education, protection of children’s rights, and nurturing of young talent.
As part of this commitment, the governor highlighted a state of emergency in public schools and a sweeping programme of school renovations and infrastructure upgrades.
These efforts, he explained, are designed to create safe, conducive learning environments where every child can thrive academically.
Governor Okpebholo also underscored the importance of safeguarding children from abuse, exploitation, and violence.
He noted that his administration is strengthening enforcement of child-protection laws and tackling social ills—especially cultism—that threaten young people’s development.
“We are committed to creating opportunities that empower our youth and prepare them for productive lives,” he said.
Calling on parents, teachers, and community leaders to remain vigilant, the governor urged them to mentor children, instill strong values, and support their ambitions.
He assured Edo’s young citizens that the government will continue providing the tools and backing they need to excel in school, develop marketable skills, and contribute positively to society.
In closing, Governor Okpebholo encouraged every Edo child to “embrace education, dream big, and strive for excellence,” promising that his administration stands ready to back their journey toward a brighter future.
