The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that the national grid collapse that occurred on Monday was partial. In a conversation on the same day, Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for TCN, provided further clarification on the situation.
Mbah explained that the grid did not collapse entirely. Specifically, the Akwa Ibom generating station was “islanded” to ensure that it could continue supplying electricity. This measure allowed for the continued provision of power through the Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132 Kilovolt substations.
Swift action has been initiated to restore electricity supply across affected areas, and TCN is working diligently to address the situation.
She said:
“It was a partial system disturbance.”
“The entire system did not collapse as the IBOM Generating Station was ISLANDED (i.e. separated to stand alone to continue supplying some areas to avoid the entire system going down), to enable It to continue to supply through the eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132kv substations.“Recovery is currently ongoing and has advanced significantly.”
