Share 753 Godwin Emefiele houses to universities, others – Shehu Sani to Nigerian govt

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has proposed that the 753 houses seized in Abuja—linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele—be allocated to educational institutions across the country.
In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the outspoken lawmaker suggested that the properties should be distributed among Nigerian universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research institutes. He noted that such a move would serve a meaningful purpose and offer a historical lesson to future generations.
“The 753 seized Houses in Abuja should be shared to all Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Research Institutes. It’s enough to go round. They can decide what they want to do with it. The future generation will learn from the history of the Houses and appreciate the actions taken,” Sani stated.
The seized properties had been the subject of a legal case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In December 2024, Justice Jude Onwegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court granted a final forfeiture order for the estate, which is located in the Lokogoma district of Abuja.
Following the court’s ruling, the EFCC officially handed over the 753 duplexes to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. While the government has yet to announce a definitive plan for the use of the properties, Sani’s proposal has sparked renewed interest in how seized assets belonging to Godwin Emefiele can be repurposed for national development.
