A devastating explosion occurred on Wednesday night in the Karu bridge area of Abuja, the nation’s capital, leaving many feared dead. The incident involved a fuel-laden truck that lost control and collided with other vehicles, resulting in a massive explosion.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck crashed around the Karu bridge, which is located between Kugbo and Nyanya on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway. The accident prompted several residents to call for emergency services, with many seeking assistance until around 7:50 pm.

In a statement, the Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mark Nyam, explained that the driver of the CNG truck lost control, leading to the collision and subsequent explosion. The statement was issued by Nkechi Isa, the Head of Public Affairs for FEMD.

The statement reads :

“A ghastly motor accident has occurred at the Karu bridge between Kugbo and Nyanya in the FCT. The accident, which occurred at about 7.14 this evening, involved a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck and other vehicles.
“According to the Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation division of FEMA, Mr Mark Nyam, the accident occurred when the driver of the CNG truck lost control on the bridge there by running into other motorists and leading to an explosion.
