FG Reportedly Increases Inmates Daily Feeding Allowance From N750 To N1,150
The Nigerian Correctional Service is taking significant steps to address nutritional challenges within the prison system. As part of these efforts, the agency has announced that the 2025 budget will include provisions for a new feeding allowance for inmates.
This development was disclosed on Tuesday, October 29, by Stephen Abene, the Spokesperson for the Nasarawa State NCoS Command, during an interview with PUNCH.
Mr. Abene explained that the adjustment in the feeding allowance aims to align with current economic realities. Beginning in 2025, the daily feeding allowance for inmates will increase from N750 to N1,150.
This substantial increase reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving inmate welfare and addressing nutritional concerns within correctional facilities.
The decision to enhance the feeding allowance is a critical move towards ensuring that inmates receive adequate nutrition, which is essential for their health and rehabilitation.
By adjusting the budget to support better nutrition, the Nigerian Correctional Service is taking an important step in reforming the prison system and promoting the overall welfare of inmates.
He said:
“The government recently approved N1,150 for feeding per inmate from N750, which will be captured in the 2025 budget. This upward review is to meet up with the present economic reality.”
