Gunmen Abduct UNN Dean Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam
In a troubling incident, Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, a senior lecturer and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen believed to be kidnappers. The abduction occurred on Sunday morning along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, a route that has recently seen a surge in criminal activities.
Prof. Ujam, who also teaches in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, was taken under circumstances that have yet to see any ransom demands from his captors. This alarming incident highlights the growing insecurity in the region, raising significant concerns about the safety of residents and travelers.
The abduction of Prof. Ujam follows another shocking event involving Emeason Chima, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who was kidnapped on Saturday while driving alone near Maduka University in Igbo-Etiti, Enugu State. The kidnappers have since demanded a ransom of N50 million for Chima’s release.
Adding to the unease, unconfirmed reports suggest that passengers traveling in a commercial bus were also abducted along the same road just days prior, further emphasizing the escalating threat to public safety.
Efforts to contact the Enugu State Police Command for comments have been unsuccessful, as their spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, was unavailable at the time of reporting. The pattern of repeated abductions in this area has prompted calls for urgent security measures to protect commuters and restore peace to the region. Community leaders and residents are demanding immediate action to address the growing menace of kidnappings and ensure the safety of all who travel this route.
