Edo Road Accidents Claim 33 Lives In Just Two Months

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a alarming number of road accidents in Edo State. According to Cyril Mathew, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Corps, at least 33 people lost their lives in road accidents across the state between January and February 2025.

These fatalities were recorded in 35 accidents that occurred across the state during the two-month period. In January alone, 17 road crashes involved 119 individuals, resulting in 15 deaths and 69 injuries.

The following month, 18 accidents took place, affecting 171 passengers, with 18 fatalities and 69 injuries.

Mathew attributed most of the crashes to reckless driving behaviors, including break failure, overspeeding, dangerous driving, use of phone, and route violation, among others.

These findings highlight the urgent need for drivers in Edo State to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent further loss of life.

He, however, warned motorists against over-loading, drunk driving, night driving, use of phones and over-speeding.

According to him, the command is stepping up campaigns across the state to sensitize motorists on the need to imbibe safety culture on the road to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians.

Mathew, however called on stakeholders to work together with the Corps to actualize zero road traffic crash in the state.
