High Voltage Surge in Gombe Kills 5, Injures 13 Others

A tragic electrical surge in the Tudun-Wada Pantami area of Gombe State has resulted in the deaths of five residents, with thirteen others sustaining various injuries.
The incident, caused by an unexpected high voltage in the power supply, also destroyed numerous household appliances and electrified metal objects within residential compounds.
Eyewitnesses reported sudden sparks and loud noises as the voltage surged through the area, leaving the community in panic.
According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, officers from the Low-cost Divisional Headquarters swiftly responded to the scene.

They secured the area and ensured the evacuation of injured victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Preliminary investigations confirmed five fatalities and thirteen injured individuals currently undergoing treatment.
Authorities have deposited the remains of the deceased in the morgue, while efforts are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the surge.
The incident has raised concerns about power safety and the need for regulatory action to prevent future occurrences.
Residents have called on the government and power distribution companies to urgently investigate and improve infrastructure to avoid further loss of life.
