Fuel Scarcity Worsens In Ilorin As Prices Soar And Queues Resurface

Fuel scarcity has worsened in Ilorin, with queues returning to petrol stations across the city.

Prices at major filling stations have skyrocketed, ranging from N640 to N680 per litre, while independent marketers are charging exorbitant rates of between N900 and N1,000 per litre.

The scarcity has led to the closure of many fuel stations, citing a lack of supply. According to Tajudeen Balogun, a manager for an independent marketer, the sole importer of petrol, NNPC, has not imported or loaded petrol in Lagos, leading to the shortage.

He believes the situation will persist until Nigeria’s local refineries become fully operational.

A TotalEnergies official in Ilorin confirmed the unavailability of fuel for loading in Lagos, attributing the situation to broader supply issues.

The fuel scarcity has also had a ripple effect on transportation, with commercial cab drivers, Okada riders, and tricycle operators increasing their fares and expressing frustration over the situation.

The shortage has caused inconvenience and hardship for residents, who are now forced to pay higher prices for fuel and transportation.

The situation highlights the need for a sustainable solution to Nigeria’s fuel supply challenges.
