Popular TikToker Jailed By Court For Naira Abuse

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced social media personality Abdullahi Musa Huseini, popularly known as Amuscap, to six months in prison for violating currency regulations by spraying and defacing the Naira at his wedding.
The judgment was delivered by Justice S.M. Shuaibu after Huseini admitted guilt to a single charge of Naira abuse, which is contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.
The charge arose from an incident that occurred on December 6, 2024, at the Ali Jita Event Centre in Kano.
During his wedding celebration, Huseini was recorded on video flamboyantly spraying N100,000 in N1000 notes while dancing, which led to the legal action against him.
“That you, Abdullahi Musa Huseini, on the 6th day of December, 2024, at Ali Jita Event Centre, Kano, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did tamper with the sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) in N1000 denomination issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying it during a social occasion,” the charge read.
Following the guilty plea, prosecution counsel Zarami Mohammed presented the court with facts and corroborating evidence. The court wasted no time in convicting the defendant.
In his ruling, Justice Shuaibu sentenced Huseini to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine, stressing that the act constituted a serious offence under the law.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which filed the case, said Huseini was arrested after receiving actionable intelligence about the currency abuse. Investigators confirmed that the act was deliberate, carried out in disregard of existing laws and public awareness campaigns warning against such behaviour.
The EFCC has repeatedly cautioned citizens against mishandling the Naira, especially at social functions, stating that such conduct amounts to economic sabotage and is punishable by law.
