Israel Confirms Death Of Terrorist Leader Of Hamas

Israel has confirmed death of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, following the emergence of images reportedly showing his body buried in debris. Sinwar, aged 62, has been at the helm of Hamas in Gaza since 2017 and is widely regarded as the architect of the 7 October 2023 attacks.

The confirmation came from Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, who stated that DNA testing and other examinations conducted on a body found in Gaza verified Sinwar’s death. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) were credited with having “killed today by IDF soldiers,” according to Katz’s statement.

Minister Katz emphasized the significance of Sinwar’s death, describing it as both a “great military and moral achievement for Israel.” This development marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, underscoring the high-stakes nature of the military engagements in the region.

“The elimination of Sinwar creates an opportunity for the immediate release of the hostages and a potential change that could lead to a new reality in Gaza – without Hamas and without Iranian control.”
