Tragedy struck in Lafayette when the lifeless body of three-month-old Jacob Moneus was found in a sealed bucket at his family home.
The discovery came after police responded to a domestic violence report involving Jacob’s mother, who alleged that her husband, Eliasard Moneus, had attacked her with a tire iron or wrench before fleeing with their son.
Following Moneus’ arrest in Indianapolis, he initially claimed ignorance about his son’s whereabouts, then assured investigators that Jacob was safe.
However, a second search of the home revealed the horrific truth: baby Jacob was found dead inside an orange bucket with a snap-seal lid. The preliminary cause of death has been determined as asphyxia, with homicide being the manner of death, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner. Eliasard Moneus, 28, has been taken into custody and is facing questioning over the tragic events.
