Real Madrid Beat Arsenal 2 – 0 In First Leg Of Champions League Quarter-Final
Real Madrid Women secured a crucial 2-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal. The match, played at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, was contested in challenging weather conditions, with heavy rain leaving the pitch in a poor state.
The soggy conditions hindered Arsenal’s ability to play their signature passing game, as they struggled to cope with the slow surface.
Real Madrid capitalized on this, with Linda Caicedo scoring the opening goal in the 22nd minute. Caicedo finished off a counter-attack, marking Real Madrid’s first shot of the game.
As Arsenal pushed for an equalizer, Real Madrid doubled their advantage. Substitute Athenea del Castillo’s effort from the edge of the box proved too much for goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger, who was unable to make the save.
The 2-0 victory gives Real Madrid a significant advantage heading into the second leg of the quarter-final.
The second leg will take place next Wednesday at the Emirates.
