Manchester United Can Be Unstoppable – Van Nistelrooy
Manchester United can be “unstoppable,” but achieving that will require time and hard work, according to interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The former United and Netherlands striker is set to lead the team for the first time when Leicester City visits Old Trafford for the Carabao Cup’s last 16 on Wednesday.
Van Nistelrooy’s appointment comes in the wake of Erik ten Hag’s recent sacking, with United currently positioned 14th in the Premier League.
The club has reportedly approached Sporting manager Ruben Amorim regarding a permanent leadership role; however, Amorim stated on Tuesday that he has not yet made a decision about his future.
Having spent five successful years at Manchester United from 2001 to 2006, Van Nistelrooy brings a wealth of experience to his new role. During his playing career, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield.
Following his retirement, he returned to the club last summer as Ten Hag’s assistant, positioning him well as he steps into the interim manager role.
“When I returned in the summer as Erik’s assistant, it was because I believe that Manchester United can climb back to the levels that I knew here as a player,” Van Nistelrooy wrote in his programme notes before the Leicester game.
“I still have that belief, but it will take time and a lot of hard work.
“We’ve seen the squad’s potential at times this season, but clearly not often enough.”
