Atalanta began their Serie A campaign in impressive fashion, thrashing Lecce 4-0 on Monday evening.
Despite missing key players Ademola Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners due to transfer speculation, Atalanta dominated the match, showcasing their depth and talent.
New signings Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui stole the show, each scoring twice on their full debuts. Brescianini, recently signed from Frosinone, opened the scoring after Retegui’s header was initially saved. Retegui then doubled the lead with a well-placed header just before halftime.
In the second half, Retegui scored again, converting a penalty following a VAR review. Brescianini added his second goal in the 66th minute, finishing neatly from Mario Pasalic’s pass.
The win marked a strong bounce-back for Atalanta, who had recently lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup with a weakened squad.
