Court Remands Tenant For Allegedly Defiling Landlord’s Daughter
A tenant, Kareem Mojeed, was remanded in the Agodi Correctional facility by an Iyaganku Family Court in Ibadan on Wednesday.
He is accused of defiling his landlord’s seven-year-old daughter. Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi did not take Mojeed’s plea and ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The case was adjourned until October 14 for the DPP’s advice. Earlier, Prosecutor Insp Gbemisola Adedeji told the court that Mojeed committed the offence on July 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ebedi area of Ibadan.
According to Adedeji, Mojeed lured the girl into his room and defiled her.
The police stated that the offence contravenes Section 34 of the Oyo State Child’s Rights Law, 2006.
The court’s decision to seek the DPP’s advice indicates a careful and thorough approach to handling the sensitive case.
