Fire Guts Part Of Ministry Of Works HQ

On Friday, a fire incident at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja caused panic shortly after employees began their workday. The fire was attributed to a spark from a faulty circuit breaker located on the ground floor of the building.

Fortunately, the incident was swiftly managed, preventing significant damage to the premises. The quick response ensured that the situation was under control before it could escalate further.

Mohammed A. Ahmed, the Director of Press and Public Relations for the Ministry, confirmed the occurrence. He described the fire as a minor incident, highlighting the effectiveness of the immediate response measures taken to contain the situation.

 

“A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry.

“The incident was a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.

“The Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Federal Ministry of Works, Headquarters, Mr Kekai Bekebi, informed me that there was a quick response from his team, who were able to put the situation under control by deploying available fire extinguishers. He added that a successful evacuation exercise of staff was also carried out.

“The Director, Human Resource Management, Mr Aliyu Abdullahi stated that no loss of document, no injuries, and no casualties were recorded, as he further commended the staff for their general conduct while the incident lasted,” he said.

Meanwhile, normal activities have since resumed with maintenance staff cleaning the debris and putting other items in place.
