The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended three suspects in Katsina State for allegedly vandalizing streetlight cables. The suspects were paraded on Thursday by NSCDC spokesman DSC Buhari Hamisu, who revealed that they were caught by the Special Anti-Vandal Patrol at different locations within Katsina metropolis.
According to Hamisu, the suspects are part of a notorious group that specializes in vandalizing streetlight armored cables and committing theft while armed.
The group’s modus operandi involves targeting streetlight cables in various locations, including along Usman Nagogo Road, opposite the State Ministry of Works.
After vandalizing the cables, the group would then move to an uncompleted building, where they would burn the cables in the presence of other accomplices. The NSCDC’s swift action has led to the detention of these suspects, bringing a halt to their destructive activities.
The arrest of these suspects serves as a warning to others engaged in similar criminal activities, demonstrating the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining law and order in Katsina State.
Hamisu further disclosed that one of the suspects, a 16-year-old, was also caught vandalizing streetlight cables near Hassan Usman Road, close to Union Bank. The suspects will be charged to court after investigations are complete.
He urged parents to caution their children against engaging in vandalism and other criminal activities.
