MTN Increases Their Data Prices By Over 100% – See Their New Data Prices

MTN, Nigeria’s largest telecommunications company, has begun increasing its data prices. The price hike follows approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission in January.

For now, the price increase only affects data plans, with call and SMS rates remaining unchanged. An MTN official, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the changes on Tuesday.

The official stated, “Yes, we’ve started updating our price lists, but it’s happening gradually, so not all plans have been adjusted yet.” This gradual rollout means that not all data plans have been updated with the new prices.

To illustrate the price increase, the 1.5GB monthly plan that previously cost N1,000 has been replaced with a 1.8GB plan for N1,500. This change reflects the new pricing strategy implemented by MTN.

The NCC, through its spokesperson Reuben Muoka, said the price hike follows its rules under the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.

Sadly, Telecom subscribers aren’t happy about it. Their association has rejected the increase and is even threatening to take legal action.
