Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has cautioned the Federal Government to exercise extreme caution in handling the allegations against Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
This comes after the Nigerian police invited Ajaero for questioning over serious charges, including criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
Reacting to the police invitation, Obi stated via his official X account that the move was not unexpected,
given Ajaero’s sensitive position as NLC leader. However, he emphasized that the alleged crimes listed on the invitation letter are grave and cannot be overlooked, especially without clarity on the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
Obi’s warning suggests that the government should approach the matter with transparency and ensure that Ajaero’s rights are protected.
