“The Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering, operating under the Inspector-General of Police, has successfully dismantled a criminal group involved in smuggling refined petroleum products to Cameroon.
In a series of operations in July, the task force recovered 13 trucks loaded with stolen crude oil, diesel, and petrol, and arrested 17 individuals linked to these crimes.
According to Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Nigeria Police Force spokesman, and Bayo Sulaiman, Task Force Commander, the arrests took place in Adamawa State.
On July 13, 2024, the task force intercepted three Toyota Corolla cars loaded with 130 jerry cans of petrol, which were seized along with the vehicles. All 17 suspects have been charged in court and are either in prison or facing legal action.
The seized items have been forfeited to the government, and the police are working to secure permanent forfeiture through court approval.
The successful operation marks a significant milestone in the fight against petroleum smuggling and illegal bunkering.”
