A group of sports journalists, approximately 11 in number, has been kidnapped while traveling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover a football event. The journalists were on their way to cover the African Nations Cup qualifier match between the Super Eagles and Libya, scheduled for Friday.
The kidnapping occurred on Wednesday while the journalists were passing through Iseke, near Ihiala, in Anambra State. According to a source, they were traveling in a bus when they were taken.
The incident raises concerns about safety and security in the region, particularly for those traveling for work or events.

Another source said on Thursday morning that nine of the journalists have been rescued, while one is feared dead.
The source said four of the victims are still being held in captivity.
Meanwhile, Police authorities in Anambra have confirmed the incident.
The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday, said men of the Command have been deployed to rescue the journalists.
“We intercepted the information as was being shared on various social media platforms yesterday, and we went to work immediately.
“As I speak to you, a joint operation is ongoing. We are however not sure if they are in captivity or were able to escape.”
Ikenga said he has no information on the rescue of any of the victims, but assured that operatives of the Command were working to free the abducted newsmen.
