In a dramatic turn of events, the children of Dr. Tiri Gyang from the Federal University of Dutsinma, Caleb and Derrick, have been released after being held captive by bandits in Katsina State.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦20 million, but the exact amount paid remains unclear. Caleb was freed first, followed by Derrick, who was released on August 4, 2024, after the bandits received two motorcycles and a ₦200,000 mobile recharge card.
With their children now safe, plans for Dr. Tiri Gyang’s burial can proceed. Meanwhile, in a related case, Mallam Garba Gardi Funtua, who was trying to secure the release of his daughter Aisha, paid a ₦2 million ransom.
Tragically, after freeing Aisha, the bandits captured and killed Garba. His son revealed that the bandits had demanded an additional ₦5 million, without disclosing that Garba had already been killed 17 days prior to the new demand.
