Appeal Court Orders Yahaya Bello To Face Fraud Charges
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ordered former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to present himself for trial.
This comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arraign him in April for alleged N80 billion fraud at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Bello was charged with a 19-count charge of money laundering alongside three other suspects – Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu.
However, he had approached the Kogi State High Court to stop his arrest, securing an order restraining the EFCC from taking action.
The Court of Appeal has now overturned this decision, ruling in favor of the EFCC’s appeal against the lower court’s judgment.
In the ruling, Justice Ken Amadi ordered Bello to present himself for trial and restrained him from taking any further actions regarding the charges until he has been formally arraigned.
This paves the way for the EFCC to proceed with the prosecution of the former governor.
