The affected individuals include a widow named Amina Isah, her four children, and two grandchildren, who were reportedly poisoned after unknowingly using guinea corn mixed with chemicals for planting.

Dr. Oyaje Sule, proprietor of Gana Clinic, reported that three family members, including the widow, were admitted unconscious after a tragic incident. The victims’ ages ranged from 3 to 30 years, with the exception of the elderly grandmother. The clinic provided treatment to the affected family members, who were brought in critical condition.

The family had mistakenly used leftover guinea corn meant for planting, which had been mixed with chemicals, to make pap. After consuming the pap, they began vomiting and became unconscious.

Dr. Sule confirmed that the victims were in critical condition upon arrival but have since been revived.

He stated,

“What I was told is that the family had mixed chemical with guinea corn they were to plant, after planting the guinea corn, the remaining was brought home and they washed and ground it to make pap.”

“It was after they took the pap this morning that they started vomiting and some of them were unconscious before they were rushed to my clinic.”

The victims of the incident have been identified as Benjamin, Piko, Esther, and Hassan Emmanuel, along with one other person who remains unidentified.

Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
