10 Persons Die In Mogadishu Suicide Bombing
A devastating car bomb explosion at a checkpoint in Mogadishu has claimed the lives of 10 people, including seven security force officers and two civilians.
The bomber also died in the attack. According to a police spokesman, security personnel had attempted to stop the vehicle as it approached the checkpoint at high speed, but were unable to prevent the blast.
The al-Shabaab Islamist terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a separate incident in the same area, police thwarted another attack when they discovered a car packed with explosives based on a tip-off.
A controlled detonation was carried out, preventing further loss of life.
The attacks come after a remotely detonated bomb exploded in a Mogadishu restaurant over the weekend, claiming 11 lives. The series of attacks highlights the ongoing security concerns in the region and the persistent threat posed by al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for all the attacks.
The militia controls areas in parts of Somalia, but in recent years it has been pushed back from the capital.
However, there are repeated attacks in Mogadishu on government facilities and on hotels and restaurants, where the Islamists condemn the Western lifestyle that prevails as un-Islamic.
