Why I Went Bald Again 15 Years After – Yvonne Jegede
Nollywood actor Yvonne Jegede has responded to criticism following her decision to cut her hair for a role in the highly anticipated 2024 movie “Aja.” Taking to her Instagram page, the screen goddess reflected on her earlier experience of going bald 15 years ago, explaining that her choice to do it again stemmed from her commitment to embodying challenging characters in her acting career.
Yvonne Jegede emphasized that she is not an actress who merely seeks out “champagne” roles focused solely on glamour and appearances. Instead, she expressed her passion for taking on risky and daring movie roles, showcasing her dedication to the craft. Cutting her hair is a bold choice that underscores her willingness to fully immerse herself in the characters she portrays.
Her remarks highlight the importance of versatility in acting and the willingness to make personal sacrifices for the sake of artistic expression. As Yvonne continues to make waves in the film industry, her fearless approach to challenging roles is sure to inspire both fans and fellow actors alike.
In her words:
“Fifteen years ago, I took the bold step of going completely bald. I’ve always been known for daring choices with my hair, and maybe that’s because I’m blessed with great hair. #Aja #AjaTheMovie demanded a transformation – not just for the money $, but because of @lopeorire (the brilliant Writer/Producer) whose talent is unmatched.
I’m not one for “champagne” roles that are all about looks; the riskier, the more I’m drawn in. I was on the phone with @Officialsamolatunji1 (my manager) every day, telling him I HAD to be in this film because the story captivated me.
When this movie drops on streaming platforms, expect to see me front and center! I’m immensely proud of this project – NOTHING like what’s out there. This film will spark debates, and that’s exactly why I poured everything into this role.
Thank you for all the support, and I know you’re going to love #Aja.
This project is my baby – forget that Titi Orire owns it; it’s MINE.
Yvonne Jegede is every director’s dream and every producer’s delight – no stress on set, and all in for promotion.”
