‘We Are Not On Same Level’ – Kcee Responds To Flavour

Veteran Nigerian singer Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, widely known as Kcee, has addressed allegations made by his colleague Flavour regarding accusations of musical style copying. Recently, Flavour took to the microblogging platform X, where he made insinuations about a fellow artist imitating his unique sound. Although he did not specify anyone’s name, Kcee interpreted the comments as a direct shade towards him.

In response, Kcee firmly stated that Flavour is not on his level and advised him to choose his battles more wisely. He emphasized his long-standing presence in the music industry, indicating that he has been a part of the scene long before Flavour. Kcee further urged Flavour to refrain from attempting to gatekeep Igbo cultural music, asserting his own contributions and legacy within the genre.

This exchange highlights the competitive nature of the Nigerian music industry and the complexities of artistic expression, particularly regarding cultural ownership. Both Kcee and Flavour are prominent figures in the Nigerian music scene, and their rivalry has sparked conversations about originality and influence in music.

He wrote:

“Bro, We are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully.

“Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a Custodian.

“I’ve been in this game before you

“It belongs to all.

“You dont own this genre of music.

“My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize.

“In an ocean of things that matter. You’re like a needle.

“Get that right

“People recognize authenticity. I’ll continue celebrating our culture unapologetically. Spend your energy on success, not diminishing mine.”
