Politicians Don’t Respect Nigerians – Mr Macaroni
Famous social activist and skit maker Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has voiced strong criticisms against Nigerian politicians, claiming they lack regard for the citizens they represent. He emphasizes that this disconnect stems from the politicians’ history of being unaccountable to the Nigerian people.
Mr. Macaroni’s comments come in the wake of alarming threats made by Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives from Abia State. Ikwechegh threatened an Uber driver, suggesting he would make the driver “disappear” and subsequently hinted at violence, stating he could beat him up and lock him in his generator house.
In response to these shocking statements, Mr. Macaroni took to his X handle to express his concerns. He reiterated that politicians have consistently failed to hold themselves accountable to the Nigerian populace, which contributes to the pervasive mistrust between the electorate and their representatives.
Through his platform, Mr. Macaroni aims to shine a light on the need for political accountability and respect for citizens, urging Nigerians to demand better from their leaders.
He cited the FCT Minister as an instance, whom he claimed asked if some Nigerians were stupid while addressing them.
Mr Macaroni wrote: “Nigerian politicians lack regard for Nigerians and this is because they have never been accountable to the people.
“The other day the FCT Minister was addressing some Nigerians and he said; “are you stupid, is it because I came down to talk to you”
“You are a civil servant!
“What do you mean by “is it because I came down to talk to you?”
You are talking to the people that pay your salary!!! Whatever privileges your office allows you is as a function of your service to the people! You work for the people and not the other way round. Arrogance has no place in public office!!!
“Nigeria is not a private entity. Your duty is to serve!!! You are not anybody’s chairman.
“So, next time any Nigerian politician is addressing the people, please remind them that they are speaking to the people they are serving, not their followers.”
