Kanayo O. Kanayo, a veteran Nollywood actor, has expressed his frustration with Instagram, accusing the platform of unfair treatment. In a video message, he lamented that his followers have been dropping for months, despite his active presence on the platform.
Kanayo argued that it’s impossible for him not to have gained new fans in the last few months, suggesting that Instagram’s algorithm may be to blame. He emphasized that this issue isn’t unique to him, implying that other users may be experiencing similar problems.
The actor’s concerns highlight the ongoing challenges faced by content creators on social media platforms, where algorithms can significantly impact their online presence and engagement.
He said,
“I have noticed that for the past seven to eight months, my Instagram page followership which was about 2.2 or 2.3 million was brought down to 1.9 million.
“It is that my followership has not added up to one thousand for seven to eight months? It’s a matter of concern because it’s happening to a lot of people. We are using a platform that we have no control over and the way that they are treating us is very bad. So I’m calling on the owners of Instagram to treat us like content creators; it’s beneficial to you as well as it’s complementary beneficial to us.”
