Growing Up I Used To Pretend To Be Lil Wayne – Tems
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, recently opened up about her early musical influences during an appearance on ‘The Cruz Show’ on Real 92.3 FM. The Oscar-nominated artist revealed that she used to mimic American rapper Lil Wayne when she was younger, highlighting the impact he had on her artistic development.
During the interview, Tems disclosed that she would often “pretend” to be a rapper, with Lil Wayne serving as her role model. His unique style and creativity inspired her to explore her own musical talents, ultimately leading to her success in the industry.
Tems’ journey from imitating one of hip-hop’s biggest stars to becoming a celebrated artist in her own right underscores the transformative power of music and the influence of iconic figures in shaping aspiring musicians.
“Hip-hop is my thing. I used to pretend to be a rapper. I love Lil Wayne as well. I used to pretend to be Lil Wayne when I was younger,” she said.
Tems said she’s looking forward to meeting the rap icon.
“I’ve not met Wayne. I want to meet him so bad. Very soon I know I’m going to meet him.”
