President Bola Tinubu has ordered his cabinet members to hold regular press briefings, starting next week. This move is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in government, particularly after some ministers failed to render accounts.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that the briefings will provide updates on government policies and activities. This decision is seen as a step towards increasing openness and responsiveness to the public.
By mandating regular engagement with the public, President Tinubu is emphasizing the importance of accountability in his administration. This move is expected to foster greater trust and understanding between the government and the Nigerian people.
He said:
“In 2024, we hosted 25 ministers at these briefings and reached millions of people in Nigeria and abroad through traditional and digital media platforms,” Idris said.
“This year, 2025, is a year of consolidation—a year for building on the gains we have seen in the first 19 months of the administration.”
