Vinicius Jr, the superstar forward for Real Madrid, has recently disclosed a fascinating aspect of his heritage: his ancestral roots trace back to Cameroon.

This revelation came to light through a DNA test carried out by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in collaboration with AfricanAncestry.com. Conducted on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Fonte Nova, the test results highlighted that Vinicius Jr’s lineage is linked to the Tikar tribe, a significant cultural group in Cameroon.

To commemorate this discovery, a certificate was presented to Vinicius Jr, formally recognizing his Cameroonian ancestry. The occasion also included a special video presentation that celebrated the rich legacy of his Tikar forebears.

This initiative is a segment of CBF’s ‘Roots of Gold’ campaign, which aims to honor the history and pride of the Afro-Brazilian community, particularly emphasizing the contributions and connections within the world of football.

Speaking about his roots, Vinicius said,

“Discovering that my roots are in Cameroon is a very special moment for me and my family.

“It reminds me that, despite the challenges, our origins and our history count for a lot.”
