Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, a popular Nigerian singer, has spoken about his decision to study law, clarifying that his choice was not influenced by pressure to follow in the footsteps of his successful father, Femi Falana. During the interview, Falz explained that his inspiration to pursue law stemmed from witnessing the impactful work of his father. He spoke about growing up and observing the people his father championed and defended, which left a lasting impression on him.

Falz’s reflections highlight the profound influence of his father’s advocacy on his personal and professional choices, emphasizing a legacy of passion and commitment to social justice.

“I won’t say it was pressure but when I was super young, I was already getting that reaction everywhere I went if I ever mentioned my name, people would be like, ‘Which Falana? Is it Femi Falana? Oh wow.

“Everyone sort of had a story about how my dad came to their aid at some point in time and how he fought for them and was there for them. So at that point in time, I wasn’t pressured. I aspired to emulate what my father was doing.”

He said his father’s work left a lasting impression on him and on his own, he decided to study law, even though he only went on to practice for a short time.

“I did practice law for a very short period of almost two years. I started going out of practice in 2014 when things started to pick up for me.”
